On its initial release in 2005 Silent Alarm entered the UK Album Chart at number three, and was certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry after more than 500,000 copies were sold in the UK during 2005. Silent Alarm was also shortlisted for the 2005 Mercury Music Prize, and was named Album of the Year by NME ahead of Arcade Fire’s debut album Funeral.
